In order to get the last race for my running club’s Grand Prix Series, I ran a Wild Mile this morning! This was the first time I ran a 1 mile race and I have to say it was fun! I’m not big on short distance races and totally prefer slow and long, but due to the fact it was with costumes, it was awesome!
Guess what I dressed up as???

Super Mario!!
I’m all for feeling comfortable and being goofy. This was perfect! Great costume to run in.
I meet with a few ladies from my running club and we first watched the men heat.
After that it was our turn! And off we went!
I never did this distance in a race, plus I wasn’t sure how my Achilles tendon is doing, so I started without a plan. After a little while, I realized it hurts either way, so why not run as fast as I can!
The course was not flat and also thanks to “Frankenstorm” it was a little windy, but other than that it was fun!
I finished in 7:28, not too bad. This will give me a base line for next year! Yes, that’s right, I will be back next year!
Here are the official results:
I finished the Wild Mile on Oct 28, 2012 with a time of 00:07:28. In heat#2, I placed 17 of 38 runners, 17 of 38 Female runners and 5 of 11 in the Women 30-39 division. I scored 962 Grand Prix points in this race.
Weather on Race day was 57 degrees, cloudy.
And the best part…
Have you done a 1 mile race? Did you like it?
How about running in a costume? What was your favorite one so far?

Great job…love the picture with the mini Mario!
Thanks Abbi!!
That’s a speedy mile! I’ve never run a 1 mile race before, but I’m sure it’s tough. Still, one thing that I like about short races is that they are over quickly. I don’t know how you ran so fast wearing a costume!
Thank you Tina!
Haha!! I love your costume, it is great!! I’m impressed you ran that fast in costume too. Great job!!
Thanks Christy!
so impressed by your costume!! I am not great at costumes, but I love halloween races!
You make a damn good Mario! Can’t believe you were so fast in that costume. Maybe I need to start dressing up
The little boy at the end was adorable. I hope you’re doing OK with this hurricane situation. Please keep us posted. xoxo
Hi Lisa, we are doing good. Work closed at lunch, now I’m home relaxing with coffee and cuddling with my BF and dog
Great costume! I was hoping to run a mile race this past summer but didn’t work out with the plantar fasciitis issue. It’s on my bucket list, though, since I haven’t done it since high school. So glad you had fun being a Super speedy Mario!
i did a mile race 2 years ago and feel the same as you, prefer the long distance. LOVE your costume and can’t believe you ran in it! I did my race this past weekend in a costume-but made it out of running clothes so it was comfortable.
I would have never thought about how runner friendly a mario costume would be. very creative and practical!
