Three (Recovery) Things Tuesday

As I mentioned in my last post I have a small issue with my left achilles tendon. In order to make it feel better for the upcoming half this Sunday, I will try all my recovery tricks.

1. Epson Salt Bath

FirstĀ  took a relaxing Epson salt bath, which was recommended by several physical therapist. I bought it at Target and I have to say I actually like it! I like the smell and it feels relaxing, but I miss the bubbles!

While soaking in the bath tub I was reading 50/50 by Dean Karnazes. While talking about the 50 marathons he did in 50 consecutive days (!) he is providing a lot of great advice. I really recommend this book even to runners who do not run the marathon distance.

2. Foam Rolling

After the bath I used the foam roller and rolled my legs from hamstrings all the way down to my toes. I think my issues are probably to tightness in my legs and most of the time it starts in my hamstrings, so I rolled both legs from top to bottom.

3. Icing

Last but no least, I iced my left achilles tendon for about 20 while watching tv. I will repeat this a few times this week and hope to feel better by Sunday.

Have you ever had issue with your achilles tendon?
Any advice to recovery faster? Thanks!!

    1. Thanks Caro! Great video!!

  1. so sorry to hear. I have no recommendations for you, but just wanted to say I’m hoping you recover quickly and have a GREAT day, Sunday.

  2. Tappan has had an achilles problem for the past 2 years…still hasn’t gotten much better :(

    1. oh no, that worries me…. hope he feels better soon!

  3. I do all 3 of these things at once when I ICE-Bath in the Ocean!!! the salty-freezing water and crashing waves knock the sore right out! I haven’t had achilles pain…stick a dixie cup in the freezer and massage that into your sore tendon!
I hope it feels better soon!
    xoxo!

    1. Thanks!! I will try the cup :)

  4. :( no advice.feel better!!

  5. I haven’t had a problem with my tendon. I’ve tried foam rolling to loosen up a tight spot. Definitely helps! Same with Epsom salt. Love it! I’m not a fan of ice however. There’s actually been some articles around lately that say it’s no good! If I find them, I will send them over to you.
And to follow up on your comment on my post, I definitely get the feeling that people who race triathlons are more interested about the equipment than the fun. We’ll see how it goes at the next one. But I do love my fellow runners!

Also, I love the new look!

  6. I’ve been wanting to read that book! Even after meeting the Ultramarathon man (LOL) I am super inspired by what he has accomplished. I’m sorry to hear about your running injury. I hope if feels better soon!

  7. I haven’t heard of the Epsom salt bath, might have to try it myself. I spend a lot of time stretching, foam rolling and icing and it has really helped, though it took a few weeks to really notice the difference. Good luck, I hope you are feeling good by the weekend!

    1. You can buy the epson salt at Target. I was told that the way it works is like salting a steak. Once you salt it all the red stuff comes to the outside (in a steak) and that helps making you feel better :)

  8. No tendon issues but my sciatic nerve bothered me for a bit and now my right foot is sprained. I love Epsom Salt baths! Foam rolling too! Not sure what I would ever do without mine!
