First the good news: I had a fantastic 8 mile run this morning!
I meet with my running group and we headed out for an easy 8 miler. It was very cold this morning, we needed hats and gloves and long pants! But the sun came out and it slowly warmed up to the 40′s.
We included a 2 mile trail, which was soo beautiful! I love this section, especially on a sunny day! Great run this morning with great company.
But here is the problem, I feel a little soreness in my left achilles tendon! It started a few weeks ago, even before the marathon. In the middle of my long runs I could feel it, no pain, just a little soreness, something I noticed, but didn’t really worry about.
During the marathon 2 weeks ago I start feeling it around mile 5 and I kept feeling it for the rest of the race, but it never got worse. At the end I hardly felt it, probably because many other body parts hurt!
Right after the marathon I took a full week off from running and had no issues at all. I never feel it during my normal activities. A week later I ran an easy 5 miler, after a mile or 2 I kind of felt it again. It still is no pain, but I can feel it during running and usually the rest of the day I ran. I keep icing it and then forget about it the next day, since it is not hurting.
Again I didn’t run for another week (until today). I started feeling it after a mile or 2. It really doesn’t bother me too much while running, but I know something is off. Afterwards it hurts more. I ice it and feel ok walking. The only time it hurts is, when I walk down stairs.

I’m assuming it is a mild case of achilles tendonitis. It’s very mild, but I’m still planning on getting it checked out early next week, just to make sure it doesn’t get worse. Maybe there are some stretches or ART or anything to make it heal quickly. Better safe than sorry!
Have you ever had achilles tendonitis?
Any treatment recommendations?

What a great place to run! I hope the pain clears up soon!
Thanks Tina!
Hopefully it’s nothing too serious! It’s a good sign that it’s not a “pain” right?
I love meeting with running groups. I was asked last week if I was interested in being a coach for running groups at a local running store
Maybe. I need to see what kind of time is involved first.
That is great! Being a running coach with the local running store will help to stay accountable, especially during the winter months. Plus it is always nice to meet new people.
It’s always worrisome to notice new twinges of pain!! I think your approach of taking care of it right away is smart. Good luck! Hopefully it subsides soon, or at least doesn’t get worse.
stretching and sports massage always seem to help me. and what a gorgeous place to get to run!
Get it checked out. Better safe than sorry is the best attitude you can have!
I hope that you are able to get your tendon better asap, that isnt fun at all.
Your run looks beautiful, love it!
Love the photos from your run. I just love this time of year! I don’t have any experience with that particular injury, but you are smart to have it checked out.
