Yesterday I ran my 3rd marathon and it was the 2nd time I ran the Wineglass Marathon. I really liked this race last year, so my running buddy and I decided to do it again this year.
Training started in June and overall the training went well. You can read my training recap HERE.
Last year I had an amazing race and finished proudly in 4:24:55. I was soo happy and thought I can not beat that time ever again. This training cycle made me change my mind, especially since I had a great last 20 miler. My pace was 9:42. I started to believe a 4:15 marathon is possible.
The days prior to the race I got a little worried, felt off, got a little sick and also the weather forecast drove me crazy. One day there was 0% chance of rain and then it changed to 50%. Basically we didn’t know and I got ready for rain.
Arrival & Expo
We left on Friday to make the 6 hour drive to Corning, NY and went to the expo. It is a small race and we were quickly in and out. We also checked out the pacer booth and they gave me a white piece of paper, asked me to write my name and pace group on it, so the pacer keeps an eye on it. I signed up for the 4:10 pacer. My strategy was to stick with him as long as possible, ideally mile 20 and then just finish up.
After that we checked into our pretty B&B.
We walked around downtown Hammondsport and had a good dinner.
Saturday aka the day before the race
In the morning I went for a 2 mile shake out run and felt great. We took it easy that day and after a delicious breakfast we walked to Keuka Lake which was just down the street.
After visiting the lake we met up with one of my running buddies and we visited the Curtiss Museum. We had a great time and it was very interesting. In the evening we all met again for a great dinner and headed to bed early. Tomorrow is the big day!!
