First of all, the good news: I’m not sick anymore and feeling good! Perfect since the marathon is right around the corner. I think now is a good time to review this training cycle!
Marathon trained started: May 28, 2012
Training weeks: 18 (4 months)
Total miles run: 345
Weekly mileage:
- highest weekly mileage: 41
- lowest weekly mileage: 14.15
- average weekly mileage: 26.2 – Don’t you think that is a sign!!!??
Average # of Runs per week: 4.4
PR’s run: 2 (24:26 and then 24:24 in the 5k distance)
Injuries: none!
Massages: bi-monthly Sundays
Fun Fact: Since I trained for the same race this year than last year, I really enjoyed comparing each week. It was a great motivation to see how much I improved compared to last year.
Best run: My last 20 miler – perfect run with a perfect pace (9:42)! You can read more HERE.
My last 20 miler was amazing and it made me hopeful for a really good race. Last year I ran the exact same 20 miler with a 10:07 pace and that turned out to be my marathon pace! Let’s hope it will happen again this year!
Race goals:
A Goal: Sub 4:15 (Amazing PR of 10 minute)
B Goal: PR (anything less than 4:24:55)
C Goal: Finish strong and have fun!
Race Strategy:
I will start out with the 4:10 pacer (9:30 pace) and hope to stay with the pacer as long as possible. Ideally I can hang on until mile 20, that would allow me to take it easy the last 6 miles. If I have to separate earlier that is ok too.
Some of you might be surprised to see I go out faster than I expect to finish. The reason is that according to McMillan I can run a sub 4 hour marathon. But I’m not sure if I can really do it, the fast pace scares me. I prefer to set a realistic goal, which I know I can do on a good day and still have fun! I’m not one of those runners who can finish a cruel marathon. I don’t like pain
I’m confident I can run a 9:30 pace , I did it at the last 20 miler. Plus the race course is super flat and the temperatures are much lower now. I just have to believe and run… run fast! Yes, I can do this!

Best of luck this weekend…you are ready for your next marathon adventure! Enjoy the day and covering the 26.2 miles!
Thank you so much! All the support really helps!

I am confident that you’re going to beat your A goal. The temps, great course, and excitement of the race will all work to your advantage and you are faster than you think!!
How exciting! I’m sure you will do great! I usually figure my race in negative splits. I always run slower at first and then speed up. You’ve worked hard! Good luck!
