Last week I participated in Jess’s Virtual Games. The idea was to run all 8 Olympic Events and see how close you are compared to the winners!! It was fun to incorporate some speed work into my marathon schedule. But also I was curious to see how fast I would run those short track workouts, since I never did those before! Let’s see how I did:
The 8 Virtual Olympic Events are …
100m (.062 mile) – me: 20 seconds (5:34 pace)-women Olympic winner: 10.75 sec
200m (.124 mile) – me: 50 seconds (6:30 pace) – women Olympic winner: 21.88 sec
400m (.25 mile) – me: 1:38 minutes (6:35 pace) – women Olympic winner: 49.55 sec
800m (.50 mile) – me: 4:54 minutes (9:52 pace) – women Olympic winner: 1:59 min
1500m (.93 mile) – me: 8:35 minutes (9:14 pace)- women Olympic winner: 4:10 min
5000m (3.1 miles) – me: 29 minutes (9:22 pace) -women Olympic winner: 15:04 min – (my PR: 24:24)
10,000m (6.2 miles) – me: 65 minutes (10:29) – women Olympic winner: 30:20 min – (my PR: 55:23)
Marathon (26.2 miles) ** me: 4:36 (10:32 pace) – women Olympic winner: 2:23 – (my PR: 4:25)
** No need to run the full marathon in one shot. It’s ok to break it up into segments and challenge yourself to complete a total of 26.2 miles during the 10-day Virtual Games.
I only raced the green highlighted distances. The other distances were run during my training runs. I think it’s funny to see I’m “half as fast” as an Olympian winner! I guess I won’t be the next Bolt!
Have you ever compared your times to professional athletes?
How does your times compare to the Olympian Runners?
How does your times compare to the Olympian Runners?

Christine that is so cool. I signed up to join but crazy busy life I never got to it. I didn’t think to pull out times from my regular training runs. Duh! Regardless, I’m still going to run all of the distances just for fun
Cool game!!! Fun way to get some dreadful intervals in!! Btw, all your olympic winners time beyond 800m was 10.75 sec
Thanks for letting me know, will update right away!
i signed up for this too but didnt complete it!
Great job!
Compared to Olympics runners, I am so far far far far far behind.
I remembered running a half marathon and when I came in, the first lady that came in for the marathon zoomed past me.
Whenever I do intervals and am impressed by a sub 6 min/mile pace, I think of Kara Goucher who can maintain that pace for a *marathon*
Impressive, huh?
Girl, check out those paces, nice work!
You had some great times even if you won’t be the next Bolt
Nice way to get some speedwork done!
i didn’t give this a try but thought it was a great idea! impressive for you!
I have compared just to get an idea of how fast the elite run – amazing what they can do!
