Marathon Training: Week 10

My 10th week of marathon training was not perfect, but I feel good about it. I had a really good long run and that makes me feel good for the race!

Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun
Plan Rest 4 m run 8 m run 4 m run Rest 17 m run 8 m run
Actual Rest
5 m run 5 m run
Rest
Rest 18 m run 6 m run

Monday:
Rest! Love those days :)

Tuesday:
5 miles  in 50:00 (10:00 pace)

Easy run on the treadmill. It was too hot to run outside, so I decided to take it easy inside and watch some tv while running

Wednesday:
5 miles in 48:39 (9:36 pace)

Another hot one and major lack of mojo, but I got out there and finished my run. First time I carried my water bottle in my bra! :)

Thursday:
Rest

Skipped my run, I was tired and just felt I had to take care of things around the house. I feel asleep shortly after 9pm.

Friday:
Rest

I thought to catch up on miles but didn’t think a 6 mile run the night before the long run is good.

Saturday:
18 miles in 3:12 (10:39 pace)

It was a great long run, I called it “New Places – Happy Faces”. You can read more about it HERE.

Sunday:
Recovery 6.2 miles in 1:05 (10:30 pace)

This was my 10k run for the Virtual Games. With the long run yesterday I just kept it at an easy pace and felt great! It amazes me how well my legs did after the 18 miles the day before. No sore at all!

Total miles:
Planned 33-41-> Actual: 34

Feeling:

  • Body: good, no issues
  • Mind: tired and still have a tough time with my weekday runs

Long Run Fuel: 18 miles in rain
The night before: 2 (!) prok chops, rice and veggies and ice cream for dessert
Before run: apple sauce
During run:
mile 4: 1 small stinger -> gave me a little stomach ache
mile 8: 1 salt stick
mile 11: 1 small stinger -> gave me a little stomach ache
drink: blue Gatorade 48 oz.
-> overall felt really good, the stinger made me a little sick for a little time.

Comments/Thoughts:
A bigger dinner and less food during my run works really well for me. I need to keep this up for the other long runs.
As a reward I got a massage on Sunday after the recovery run. I’m ready for another 30+ mile week!

8 weeks until marathon #3!
