Marathon Training: Week 8

My 8th week of marathon training was not good. It started of with a good run on Tuesday and then I was mentally out of it, cut Wednesday short and didn’t run until Saturday. The only good thing this week was a 2 second 5k PR! :)

Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun
Plan Rest 4 m run 7 m run 4 m run Rest 15 m run 7 m run
Actual Rest
5 m run 3 m run
Rest
Rest 6 m run 5k race

Monday:
Rest! Love those days :)

Tuesday:
5 miles in 50:00 (10:00 pace)

Easy run on the treadmill, felt great and I ran 1 mile more than I had to.

Wednesday:
3 mile in 31:30 (10:30 pace)

Just did not feel like running at all but got at least 3 miles in. It was one of those days.

Thursday:
Rest

My mood was really bad, got bad headaches and left work early. I took a nap and felt a little better

Friday:
Rest

Same as the day before, I had bad headaches and slept til noon. I was exhausted.

Saturday:
6  miles in 1:02:30(10:25 pace)

Initially the plan was to go to Richmond for the Color 5k run. The race started at 9am but we were told due to parking we should be there at 7am. With a 1.5 hour drive one way, that was just too early. Plus they said light rain. So we decided to not run the race and join the running group instead. With my headaches and mood the day before, it was a great choice. I was in need of a “therapy session” and good talk with some friends!

Sunday:
5k race!

This morning I ran a local 5k race and was super happy with the results. You can read more about the race HERE.

Total miles:
Planned 30-36-> Actual: 18

Feeling:
I was not in the right mood this week, this had nothing to do with running, it was more on the life/work front. I hope next week will be better!

Aches and Pains:
I woke up Sunday morning and the lower shin/ankle was a little sore, no clue why! It didn’t bother me during the race and I iced it afterwords. Just something to keep an eye on it for now.

Long Run Fuel: 6 miles in rain
The night before: Five Guys Burger
Before run: apple sauce
During run: -
-> good run

Comments/Thoughts:
The massage last week really helped my legs to loosen up. I was sore right after the massage but felt great the next day. Until the marathon I will go every other week. I really think it helps to prevent injuries.

10 weeks until marathon #3!

  1. Sorry you had a rough week.
Hope this coming week will be better for you.
And good job on listening to your body and those aches and sores.

  2. Hopefully they are minor aches and pains and go away for this week’s training. I hear massages are so important too. I read Hal Higdon would get massages every other week too. Good luck!

    1. That is interesting; I didn’t know he does get massages as well :)

  3. Sorry it was a tough week – glad you listened to your body…so important! Hopefully this week will be better :)
