What to Do with your Race Bling?

We all love our race bling – the shirt, the medal, the bib. But after a few races under our belt, the bibs, T-shirts, and medals start to pile up and create a mess. Of course, we don’t want to throw away our proud memories, but what can we do?

Instead of throwing old bib numbers, T-shirts, and medals into a junk drawer, why not make use out of them. This is what I created in order to show off my finish-line success and keep the memories.

1. Memory Frame

My first race! Bib, results and info about the race

On April 15, 2007 I ran my very first race – a 5k in just under 30 minutes. It was a very small race and nasty weather, but I loved the goodie bag and was so proud I finished the race. I fell in love with running. After the race I fell asleep and needed all day to recover!

2. Picture Frames

My first marathon!

All those frames are in my guest room around my treadmill and they help to get extra motivated during my work outs. Plus it’s a nice memory and when I see them, I always smile:)

3. The Medal Display

This display is right across my bed, each morning when I wake up I will see my accomplishments. All my medals are displayed in there and soon I might need a second one!

4. Bib Binder

From the very first race on, I kept my bib, course map and a print out of the result! In the meantime I have 3 binders filled and browsing through them makes me realize how far I have come since my first race.

How do you show off your bling?
Do you keep race shorts and bibs?

  1. You've done a great job preserving and displaying race memories!I've got a couple of medal hangers down in our workout room and I've framed a couple of pics.I've saved most but not all bibs but they are still stuck in an envelope somewhere.

  2. Cute! I have a medal display for all of my medals and a shadow box for my first marathon…I used my space blanket as the background and hung my medal on it with a picture of me crossing the finish line, my bib and the course map! Right now, I have all of my bibs in my desk drawer! I need to figure out something to do with them!

  3. Very nice way to show off your bling! I have so much bling 99.9% of it is packed away in cupboards. After 30.5 years of racing and more than 1300 races there is no way I can show even a small part of it. Every year I hang the medals of that year around the house and pack them away on 31 Dec to start the new year's display. I have some special medals, trophies and photos on display all over the house permanently.

  4. i have my medals on my wall, i need another hanger though! my bibs are in a bibfolio but i really don’t like it. i have debated on doing a scrabook with the race bib, results, pics etc but it will take a long time to do it…

  5. you are doing a GREAT job …I need to do this.I do have a lot of pictures and they are in frames and photo books that I make online…the medals….I need a hangerthe bibs I kept them all I need to copy cat you!!!

  6. I like the idea of printing the course map and race info out! Great idea! We just started displaying our medals and bibs, they make me want more. Good motivators.

  7. Oh how creative, love it!!My mom made me a medal hanger and a bib hanger, love both of them. I can check them out as I leave my bedroom each day to remind me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it!

  8. Love it! So organized and what a wonderful way to treasure those memories. My bibs are stashed away in a box somewhere. It is a pretty white box though. :)

  9. Oh and by the way, that's so cool that you grew up new Munich! I did an exchange program in high school with a girl from Aachen, Germany and spent a few weeks there. Loved Germany! And my sister did a fullbright program in Vienna Austria after she graduated from college and she lived in Bremen for her junior year of college. I feel very connected to that part of the world :)
